Feed the Need
Food insecurities are an issue that many people face on a daily basis. No child or person should go hungry. It takes a collaboration of many people and community partners to end hunger. We exist to connect community partners, donors, and grant funding to provide the practical food distribution through a backpack program to the children of New London Academy who have food insecurities in their family. We further exist to end food insecurities in all families with need in our local community. Feed the Need is a program of New London Church located in Forest, VA.
Our vision is to address the issue of hunger in our local community by providing nutritional resources to local families with food insecurities. Our mission is to providing nutrition resources to local families in order to address the issue of hunger.
Food Pantry: The food pantry is open every Saturday from 10:00am-11:30am in the white chapel located at 12371 E. Lynchburg Salem Turnpike, Forest, VA. No appointment is needed, however a short intake form is required. Guests may shop for their food items that include fresh produce (when available), frozen meat (when available) and shelf stable items.
Food Backpack Program: During the school year, food packages are sent home weekly with students whose family has signed them up for the program. These food items provide 6 meals weekly for the children.
Funding: This program is grant and donation funded. We are thankful for the grant support of Bedford Community Health Foundation and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Partner Innovation and Impact grant. We are also thankful for the support of local community food drives. We invite private donors to help to fund this program through monthly sponsorships or donations to the program.
